Leeds Gorse Celebration Evening

On Wednesday 13 July , The Gorse Academies Trust will be holding a celebration of students' efforts within this year’s Leeds Gorse Games and The Gorse Volleyball League which launched this year.

Over 300 students participated in extracurricular volleyball clubs each week, 20 students per academy competed in The Gorse Volleyball League and 12-15 students from each academy participated in the annual Gorse Games competition.

This week, 130 students from across The Gorse Academies Trust competed in the first Gorse Bridlington Beach Volleyball Tournament as a reward for exceptionally high extracurricular volleyball club attendance.

This event was part of a sport reward system where students' commitment and extracurricular school club attendance is celebrated and rewarded.

This trip was free to all students and everyone received a free volleyball vest as a token for all their efforts. It was a fantastic day and the students were absolutely thrilled to play in their first beach volleyball competition. The day was made even more special, as the majority of the students experiencing beach volleyball for the first time.

Students were divided into 3 divisions, depending on their ability.

Congratulations to the following winners:

Division 1 - The Ruth Gorse Academy (runner up The Morley Academy)

Division 2 - The Farnley Academy (runner up Bruntcliffe Academy)

Division 3 - The Ruth Gorse Academy (runner up Boston Spa Academy)

A new love for beach volleyball has been created amongst these players, and the club and school can't wait to see where this experience takes them!

This day was possible thanks to The Gorse Academies Trust, staff members, Leeds Volleyball Club, Skyball Beach Volleyball Club, East Riding City Council, KMD-LTD and Active Coast.

Over 90 students now compete and train at Leeds Gorse Volleyball Club, and they are expanding to provide competitions for primary and college students from September.
