Nottingham Rockets take part in their first Sitting Grand Prix
The 5th Sitting Grand Prix took place a the weekend (Sunday) at the National Volleyball Centre at Kettering.
For one of the teams, Nottingham Rockets, this was the first time their sitting team played competitively. Notts Rockets were supported by the Foundation during the summer last year to purchase the equipment needed to develop a sitting team. They have held a number of training session and were looking forward to taking part in their first event.
In their first match against Telford, Rockets took a convincing win 25 -9, 25 -18, the next two game were close, against two well drilled, established teams, Richard’s Renegades and Lincoln Imps, going down 2-0 but both were closely fought. The final game was against Panthers and Nottingham produced an excellent performance, serving well and a consistent, effective attack, taking a 2-0 win.
A great first event for Nottingham Rockets, they are looking forward to the next event at the end of the month.
There is still time for your club to apply for support from the Foundation to set up your own sitting team. More information available here and for an application form contact foundation@volleyballengland.org
