Yellowave celebrate Flo Hyman on International Women's Day

Happy International Women’s Day from Yellowave!

Yellowave would like to celebrate Flo Hyman today. Flo smashed all 1960’s volleyball stereotypes as one of the first black athletes to break into what was a largely white dominated sport. Flo was challenged throughout her life but over came each hurdle. She missed out on the chance to compete in the 1980 Olympics due to conflicts in the Cold War. She eventually led her team to win silver in the 1984 Olympics. In 1986, whilst playing volleyball in Japan, she suddenly died and was discovered to have a very rare condition called Marfans Syndrome.
