An Extra Special Shout-Out to Gordon Neale, Ahead of This Weekend's International Sitting Volleyball Event

As most of you will be aware, this weekend marks the first international event for volleyball since the London Olympics! Taking place at the University of Nottingham, men's and women's GB teams will be taking part in a competitive sitting volleyball event.

It seems fitting to kick off the weekend with a very special shout-out to Gordon Neale, who was one of the first people to bring sitting volleyball to England!

Gordon has had an incredible career in volleyball for almost 50 years, so as you can imagine, we'd be here all day if we were to highlight everything he's done in his career so far. However, just a small handful of his achievements include...

Being the coach of the Great Britain Sitting team for ten years,

Officiated at Paralympic Games (sitting & standing),

Organiser of the first sitting volleyball tournament in the UK (Ray Tingley Tournament) in the 90’s (6 teams),

Carried the Olympic Torch and commentated at the Paralympics in 2012,

Apart from sitting and standing volleyball, he was also responsible for getting official recognition for Army Volleyball and also ran referee courses for them,

In 2002 he was awarded an OBE by the Queen for an outstanding contribution to disabled sport.

We're sure you'll agree, Gordon is an asset to the volleyball world, and we are so very lucky to have him!
