Denis Le Breuilly - encouraging clubs to consider sitting volleyball in their club.
Volleyball England Foundation – Sitting Volleyball Announcement
Congratulations to the Trustees on the development of the Volleyball England Foundation. Delighted to learn that funding has been secured and the priority over the next eighteen months will be sitting volleyball. When appointed by the IPC as Technical Delegate responsive for the planning and delivery of sitting volleyball at London 2012, I was delighted that the host’s allocated team slots were filled as a result of the development of new teams. Hopefully this Foundation initiative will eventually lead to the further development of the international teams and to qualification by right to major European and World ParaVolley events. However, there are other aims.
I strongly urge clubs to give full consideration to this great opportunity, to their social responsibilities and to achieving their potential by promoting inclusivity and full integration within their membership and club structure. Whilst opening the door for physically impaired athletes, who might eventually consider targeting international representation, should be a key element, at these difficult times it is also important to assist others with mental well-being and to develop a sitting team for all. Most important is to develop an integrated team, including experienced volleyball players, which will enjoy this great discipline, working with each other and having fun!
Aim high. Start now. Later might never happen!
