Meet Our New Trustees - Donald Deans
Donald Deans
“I started on my volleyball journey at the age of 13, where I was introduced to the fundamentals of the game by the founder of Aquila, under the solid mentorship of Jeff Smith. My early years in the sport were enriched by interactions with influential people such as John Lowney and Frida Bussey, Nick Keeley.
At 17, I joined a mixed group associated with the Polonia Club, where I trained with Julian Banasewicz and played for the Surrey County team. My volleyball journey continued into the England Junior and Senior teams, eventually leading to my representation of Great Britain. My club career also includes playing in the Super League, further improving my skills and experience.
I began coaching at the age of 18, taking charge of Acton Impulse and the Hertfordshire County men's team. My first foray into the national league was with the Richmond Ladies, followed by coaching stints with Polonia Ladies and Swiss Cottage. My passion and commitment to the sport extended beyond coaching; I also served as the London Volleyball Development Officer, contributing to the growth and development of volleyball in London. Since 2008, I also had a privilege to work with Crown Services: Police, and most recently Armed Forces.
Currently, I am Director of my own hospitality company and have been in the industry for over 29 years. As a trustee of the Volleyball England Foundation, I would like to assist with raising funds, supporting grassroots volleyball and enhance community engagement through my professional experience. I am dedicated to trying to secure funding, aiding the establishment and growth of new clubs, and providing guidance to emerging teams. I am planning to focus my efforts on fostering a vibrant volleyball community and ensuring the sport's accessibility and development at all levels and diversities”.
Welcome to the team, Donald!
