Two more clubs awarded sitting development grant.
The Foundation are pleased to announce that 2 more clubs have been awarded a grant to develop a sitting team within their clubs.
The successful clubs are Nottingham Rockets and Salisbury VCs.
Richard Osborne the Lead for Sitting Volleyball wanted to welcome the clubs into the sitting family “I would like to extend a very warm welcome to Nottingham Rockets and Salisbury VC as the most recent additions to the sitting volleyball community. Thanks to VE Foundation funding there are now five sitting volleyball clubs that have come online in the last 12 months and there is a real sense of momentum for sitting volleyball at the moment. We don't want to stop there though, so if any other clubs who are affiliated to Volleyball England are considering setting up a sitting section then now is the perfect time to go for it! There will always be support and advice to anyone who needs it - just get in touch.”
The chair of Nottingham Rockets VC Bryan Gladwin said “We are ecstatic that we have been awarded the Volleyball England Foundation grant to help start our Sitting volleyball club. We are already in talks with the city council and local stakeholders to start the ball rolling. This is an amazing opportunity for our local community to experience sitting volleyball at a grassroots level where all are able to participate. We also look forward to where we can offer local disabled or amputee athletes the chance to compete with other clubs in the Volleyball England Grand Prix series.”
Kendra Hall the sitting manager at Salisbury said “We are delighted to receive this funding to help us establish a sitting volleyball programme in the south of England. As a small club this would have been difficult to do on our own, but with the support of the Volleyball England Foundation we can hit the ground “sliding” later this year! We believe that volleyball is for everyone and are so pleased that the sitting game can be made more accessible to our local and regional communities through SVC.”
Exciting times for 2021/22 Sitting Volleyball season.
There will be a third round of funding later in the year, keep watching the Foundation website and social media for more news.
