Queen’s Baton carried by Janet Inman in Lincoln

There were cheers, applause and lots of flag waving as the Queens Baton Relay came to Lincoln on Sunday, July 10. In Lincoln there were 7 bearers passing the baton on its journey through the city. The route took in the International Bomber Command Centre, the LNER Stadium, home of Lincoln City Football Club, then carried to the Stonebow on the High Street in Lincoln to visit the Mayor of Lincoln, Councillor Rosanne Kirk, before relaying up Steep Hill, through Castle Square and to Lincoln Cathedral.

One of the Baton carriers was Janet Inman, the Company Secretary for the Foundation and ex CEO of Volleyball England. Janet said she was proud to represent Lincolnshire and Volleyball in carrying the baton. Janet, 65, who lives in Lincolnshire and back in 2018 when the Volleyball England CEO, successfully campaigned for beach volleyball to played at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham this year.

She told us "I was really pleased to have been nominated by Volleyball and selected as a baton bearer. I met the mayor at the Stonebow and then did the first leg up the High Street. I wanted to make the experience last as long as possible so I walked rather than ran as it's such a short distance and I wanted to enjoy the moment."
